It is a flat bone resembling a triangle. The coracobrachial muscle (m. coracobrachialis), the head of the biceps brachii and the pectoral muscle (m. pectoralis minor) are attached to the coracoid process of the scapula. The lesser (m. teres minor) and the greater (m. teres major) muscles are attached to the lateral edge of the scapula. Attached to the medial edge of the scapula are the serratus anterior muscle (m. serratus anterior) and the rhomboid muscle (m. rhomboideus). The upper angle of the scapula is the site of attachment of the levator scapulae (m. levator scapulae), and the inferior angle is the site of the attachment of the greater muscle (m. teres major) and the latissimus dorsi (m. latissimus dorsi). The long head of the biceps brachii (m. biceps brachii) is attached to the upper rim of the scapular cavity, and the head of the long triceps muscle (m. triceps brachii) is attached below the cavity.

It is a long, S-shaped bone. Four strong muscles are attached to the central part of the clavicle: the sternocleidomastoid muscle (m. sternocleidomastoideus), which is attached from the top closer to the sternal end; the greater pectoral muscle (m. pectoralis major), which is attached from the bottom closer the sternal end; the dorsal trapezius muscle (m. trapezius), which is attached closer to the shoulder end from above; and the deltoid muscle (m. deltoideus) from below the shoulder segment.
